I AM WATCHING YOU: Questions for book club discussion...

  • ​A number of people have been in touch asking me for some questions for book club discussions so here are a few ideas. Forgive me for avoiding spoilers but I don't want anyone to happen across this list before finishing the book.
​Can I also say a huge thank you for choosing the novel for your book club. I have been a keen book club member for many years in my home village in Devon so this feels such a privilege for me.

  • After reading this novel, would you now feel differently if you witnessed something which made you feel worried and torn about your role?

  • Guilt is a key theme in I AM WATCHING YOU and not just for Ella. Which other characters struggle with guilt...and do they resolve their anguish?

  • How big a part did characterisation play in your enjoyment of the book?

  • Did the use of different viewpoints impact the pace and suspense of the novel?

  • How did you feel about the way the relationship between the two mothers Ella and Barbara changes through the book?
  • What are your thoughts on the final scene between Ella and Barbara?
  • The novel deals with a very difficult storyline for Sarah. Can you understand how a family might refuse to pull 'the pin from the grenade' to face such a dark secret?
  • ​The private investigator Matthew Hill became a favourite character while I was writing this book. I became so taken with him that he returns in my next psychological thriller THE FRIEND. Will you be pleased to learn more about him?
